FAQs
What is a baby sleeping bag?
Used safely in many northern European countries for over 25 years, baby sleeping
bags act as a “wearable blanket” to replace the need for loose blankets.
They are worn over pajamas and once zipped, cannot slip over the baby’s
head or off the body. Their popularity has spread across the world and more
recently within Spain, as people become aware of the benefits of these bags.
It is widely recognized that sleeping bags are safer and a more comfortable
alternative to traditional loose baby bedding.
Won´t my baby get cold if his arms are not covered?
You will find that most brands of sleeping bags come without arms. Fully-sleeved
bags carry the risk of causing overheating since they do not allow free circulation
of air and are not recommended for safety reasons. Remember that small babies
under 6 months will often have cold hands thanks to a still-developing circulatory
system. Feel the skin at the back of the neck to guage whether your baby is
really cold and follow the guide provided under “Tog Information”
as to what clothing and togs are recommended according to room temperature.
Can the Dreambag help prevent SIDS?
SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is a syndrome marked by the sudden death
of a baby while asleep, which remains unexplained after investigation and autopsy.
More information can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudden_infant_death_syndrome
Experts have agreed that the use of properly-designed sleeping bags can reduce
the risk of SIDS significantly. A study published in the European Journal of
Pediatrics in August 1998 showed that use of a sleeping bag encourages babies
to sleep on their backs and prevents bedding from coming up over the face which
can lead to increased temperature and carbon dioxide rebreathing. They concluded
in their study "The use of a sleeping-sack should be particularly promoted
for infants with a low birth weight." With the excellent design of The
Dream Bag, your baby is comfortable, warm and safe all night long.
Isn´t it too hot in Spain for sleeping bags?
Because Spain has a wide range of temperatures from summer to winter, the Dreambag
España offers three different thicknesses or Togs to cater for all seasons.
Here in Mallorca, it gets very hot and humid in summer, so we´ve always
put our babies in just a nappy and a 0.5 Tog sleeping bag which is the same
thickness as a single sheet. On very hot nights we have to use fans or air conditioning
and they actually get cold if they are not sleeping in their Dreambags!
